DESIGN A BRIDGE. LEARN ABOUT ENGINEERING.
CHANGE THE WORLD
ABOUT US
The ASCE Florida Section, in partnership with the Florida Engineering Foundation, has been conducting a bridge designer competition for students throughout the state for the past 10 years.
Originally called the West Point Bridge design contest and later Engineering Encounters, the design software for the competition has now been granted as open source to all by the program designer, Steven Ressler. We thank Steven for his contribution to the community and the ASCE Florida Section will now continue this long tradition as the ASCE Bridge Florida Competition.
Many of our Florida Section Branches hold local competitions open to middle school and high school competitors, who compete individually or in teams of two. Winners advance to the Florida Section state competition held in conjunction with the Annual Conference every July.
“I have been bringing my students to the Bridge Building Competition since 2008. My students love it! They practice for hours and it is fun for them. The host provides pizza and a presentation that the students really enjoy.”
